New blog attempt, new looks, new language. I've decided to give english a try. Why? For one - there is a wider audience for english and especially the people that I'd like to come in contact with nowadays. That is - people who lives in, has lived in, have a distant relative living in - or perhaps just have ever gotten a postcard from - Hong Kong.
Yes, Hong Kong will be the next city to be blessed by my presence. I'm much more nervous about this one than I was before we were going to Tokyo. Perhaps I should be. This time I'll have a
serious reason to be there as I'm going to study at
The Chinese University of Hong Kong as an exchange student for a full school year. But it's not just that, I feel like I'm so much more unprepared. When I went for Japan I felt like I at least knew a
fragment of the language and had some sort of idea what to expect. This time I don't.
To calm myself down, these are some things that I
do know about Hong Kong:
- They use the same voltage as in Europe in 220 volts, oh all the wonderful things I'll buy. It even seems that PAL-products are common for DVDs and hopefully games too.
- In Hong Kong you don't have to choose between coffee and tea, this is good news for people like me who have a hard time every time something needs to be decided. Instead you have some Yuangyuang - a mixture of coffee and Hong Kong style tea (which contains evaporated milk). I'm not really convinced that this could be a good thing though, but I'll try anything once.
- One Hong Kong dollar is actually worth about one swedish crown. This must be a sign of some kind. No more ugly surprises when calculating the price afterwards because I was just to lazy to even try mental calculation when buying something.
- I can't know for sure if the rest of the place is this beautiful. But just look at this picture of Hong Kong Island. There is something about the mix of ultra-modern houses with water in the foreground and mountains in the back that makes we wanna go there right away.
